Dear Students and Parents,
We would like to announce our plans for the 2019 camp program at Joshua Creek.
Over the years we have enjoyed a really successful camp program and love the feedback we get on how much fun the kids are having. We even get a surprising number of comments from parents saying that their kids ask to switch out of other camps and spend more time with us at Joshua Creek! We love and appreciate the positive feedback but also take your suggestions seriously and aim to continue to provide a better camp experience from one year to the next. The season is no exception and actually represents a big step in our evolution of the camp program…
A couple of seasons ago, our Club employed a new Tennis Director and we embarked on an ambitious plan to bring an already good tennis program up to a new level and to align more with Tennis Canada’s new guidelines for teaching. We also hired former touring professional Gloria Liang to head up the academy programs and along with our new Director (Steve), they formed a new team to work alongside them. As a result, the program took off and has been building incredible momentum last few years.
This summer we are planning to invest more of this energy and enthusiasm into our camp program. The Academy Team will work with our camp team to implement some new directives work toward an even better program. We will keep all the fun but plan to align the teaching model more closely to our academy guidelines. We have some amazing new junior nets and other modified equipment that allows kids to rally and progress more quickly and we are increasing the amount of time that the camp participants spend on the court each day.
The camp will also include options for our academy students. Certain groups will only be open to children who have participated in the various levels of our academy classes, assuring a camp experience more geared to their level. We may also plan a few girls-only groups this summer. Go girl power!!
The camp will still include some fun dodgeball time, soccer and other activities that help contribute to the overall experience and of course, golf is an option. Most participants do opt to add the golf component which gives them a rotation on the golf side of our operation daily. This includes practice time on the range, the chipping area and the putting area. Our two main areas of focus on the golf side are fun and safety but the kids are also given some basic direction to help facilitate faster learning!
